Classic Guitar

 

The classic guitarist is a musician who can read staff notation, translating it to the guitar applying the notions of dynamic, timbre, precision, clearness of sound, and respecting the music and its period. Below are the minimum requirements for each level of expertise.

 

Beginner Level:

   - Understanding the guitar (fretboard, strings, and parts name);

   - Learning the staff notation (treble clef, lines, and spaces);

   - Learning how to file and keep the finger nails (lenght, size, and how to shape it);

   - Using the footstool or another device.

   - Initiating the repertoire and progressing according to the student's development.

 

Intermediate Level:

   - Checking the repertoire already played;

   - Correct any hand position (left or right) in order to achieve a better result as well as the sitting position;

   - Progressing the study with new pieces in order to make possible changes;

   - Introducing pieces according to the student's development;

   - Introducing chamber music.

 

Advanced Level:

   - At this level, the student must have a total control of the instrument (memorized the fretboard);

   - Deep concept of music and its different forms (binary, ternary, sonata, rondo, etc...);

   - Identify motives, phrases, and sections for better interpretation;

   - Ability to read complex pieces (modern/contemporary music);

   - Advanced notions of chamber music.

Popular Guitar

 

The popular guitarist is a musician who can ready charts (chords notation), strum different rhythms, and improvise in any music style. The repertoire is really vast and it will be explored according to the student's desire. However, in order to achieve a broader guitar notion, songs will be suggested by the teacher with the goal to explore different techniques. Below are the minimum requirements for each level of expertise.

 

Beginner Level:

   - Understanding the guitar (fretboard, strings, and parts name);

   - Learning how to use the pick;

   - Learning charts and chords;

   - Stumming basic rhythms.

 

Intermediate Level:

   - Fully comprehension of the guitar and its part;

   - Advanced chords (inversions and extensions);

   - introducing to scales (major, minor, and pentatonics);

   - Introducing to harmonic field;

   - Learning how to improvise.

 

Advanced Level:

   - Full control of the picking technique (alternating pick, swipping);

   - Ability to perform in any music style applying the correct strumming technique;

   - Ability to improvise upon a chord progression.
